Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins - Big Guns
This little walk we take on the cement curb of a church front lawn
Balancing act between here and there until
we get tired and just lie in the middle of the street
and look up and think...
"If there is a god, please god, don't let a car ruin this date"
I stand there, underneith a street lamp on a side street of the
beautiful bohemian side of town, with your purse in my hand
and for the moment you are totally out of sight.
Standing there, in the burned smell of October air,
I am trying my hardest to be charming, to be poise,
but I am neither.
Sometimes my heart beats faster than I'm ready for it to,
Like it's telling my body "Wake up! You've gotta move NOW!"
We sneak on top of flower stores and talk about drugs we've taken,
and men you've dated that have treated you as inferior.
You sneaze and now I am at the computer,
and you are asking if I had seen your away message
"It's for you, i've had it up all day"
It reads:
The hard luck god,
You never had a chance you know,
Incurable romantics never do
He held a flame I wasn't born to carry,
I'll leave the dieing young stuff up to you
